Matthew Holness

Matthew Holness is an actor and comedian, best known for his role as a fictional horror writer and actor Garth Marenghi, who he co-created with Richard Ayoade. The character has appeared in two stage shows, the Perrier Award-nominated GARTH MARENGHI’S FRIGHT KNIGHT and Perrier Award-winning GARTH MARENGHI’S NETHERHEAD, alongside the cult Channel 4 TV series GARTH MARENGHI’S DARKPLACE and MAN TO MAN WITH DEAN LEARNER. Most recently Matthew as Garth has written the hugely popular books TERRORTOME and the followup INCARCERAT, both having sold out book tours all over the UK and Ireland, including selling out London’s Palladium multiple times. Other acting credits include BACK (C4) with David Mitchell and Robert Webb, short films SMUTCH and A GUN FOR GEORGE (both written and directed by Matthew), YEAR OF THE RABBIT (C4), TOAST OF LONDON (C4), FRIDAY NIGHT DINNER (C4), BLOODS (Channel 5), WE ARE LADY PARTS (Channel 4), THE HAUNTING OF BLY MANOR (Netflix), and legendary sitcom THE OFFICE (BBC).
